Are you taking care of your mental health?

You may read that question and jump right to, “Of course.”

You would reach out for help if you were in crisis.
You have no bias against people who seek help for their mental health.

But let me offer you this:
Our society doesn’t encourage
or define
or even acknowledge basic mental health maintenance.

We commonly think thoughts like, “Oh, how could I be so stupid?” (I am stupid.)
Or, “Let me avoid being in the photo while I am bloated.” (I am less than I should be.)
Or, “I really should have saved more for retirement.” (I need to meet some outward, undefined goal.)

We think of these as little course corrections.
These thoughts are just mental notes of what to focus on.
They are a renewal of our intentions.

But they are not.

These thoughts are judgy.
And critical.

They chip away at our mental health.
They are death by a thousand cuts.

Any time you use the word, “should,” it’s a red flag.

Mental health is self-care.
We mistreat ourselves in tiny little ways all the time and don’t think anything of it.

Instead, try taking care of your mental health by noticing your stream of thought.

Self-care is caring for how you talk about yourself.

Be gentle with yourself, my friend.
Take care.
You are precious.

You have been pushing hard… you know how to get shit done.

But how do you know you are ready to receive?

… receive the promotion

or the guy or the money or the “well done”?

Answer: Does it feel good?

If it feels good to receive a compliment or feels good to receive a gift, you are ready.

But if you deflect… not so ready.

If you feel uncomfortable when someone praises you.

If you feel like it’s not a reward you deserve because you haven’t worked hard enough and struggled enough…

You aren’t open to receiving.

Try this:

Hold it in your mind that you are allowing abundance to come in.

There are no hoops you must jump through to deserve abundance.

Any way things come to you, welcome them.

You don’t have to control the how or the why things flow to you.

Just allow and enjoy.

People keep telling me, “Mercury is in retrograde.”

I don’t know about that, but when life is challenging, I ask myself two questions.

What is working in my life?

What am I proud of?

No matter what else is going on, there is still a lot working in my life.

These questions make me feel better.
I hope they at least make you pause and take a breath.

I have a hunch you have a lot to be proud of.
